How is this different from built-in dictation?

Hold-to-record gives you walkie-talkie control - hold your hotkey, speak, release, done. Runs 100% locally via Whisper. Your custom vocabulary is recognized on the fly, filler words are stripped automatically, and you get full transcription history with stats.

What about my privacy?

Your audio never leaves your device. No cloud processing, no analytics, no telemetry, no account required. We can't access your data even if we wanted to.

Is this an accessibility tool?

Yes. Push to Transcribe is an assistive input method for anyone who can't or prefers not to type. It uses system accessibility APIs to place transcribed text at your cursor. Whether you have RSI, carpal tunnel, motor impairments, or simply think faster than you type, it's built for you.

Does it really work offline?

Yes. After the initial model download (~547 MB for the default Whisper Lite model), everything runs locally on your device. Airplane mode? No problem.

How accurate is the transcription?

The app ships with multiple AI models - from fast lightweight ones to studio-grade large models - so you can pick the right balance of speed and accuracy. Handles accents, technical jargon, and natural conversation with ease.

Can I customize the hotkey?

Yes. The default is the fn key - just hold it to record, release to transcribe. You can change it to any global keyboard shortcut in Settings.

What languages are supported?

The default model is optimized for English. Multilingual models supporting 100+ languages are available to download in Settings.

What are the system requirements?

Mac: Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 14.0 Sonoma or later. Intel Macs are not supported. Windows: Windows 10 or later, 64-bit. GPU acceleration via Vulkan (AMD, NVIDIA, or Intel integrated).
